Chef Pip ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of children and families who use our cooking app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use Chef Pip.

1. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information necessary to provide our service:

  • Account Information: Email address and password (encrypted) for account creation. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and name (if you choose to share it) from these services.
  • Profile Information: Nickname, age range, dietary preferences, and favorite cuisines
  • Usage Data: Recipes viewed, cooking sessions completed, and badges earned
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, and app version for troubleshooting

2. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Chef Pip is designed for users aged 4 and up, with parental supervision recommended for younger children. We take special care to protect children's privacy:

  • We do not collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent
  • We do not use children's data for targeted advertising
  • Parents can review, modify, or delete their child's information at any time
  • We do not share children's personal information with third parties except as necessary to provide the service

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide personalized recipe recommendations based on preferences
  • Track cooking progress and award achievements
  • Improve our app and develop new features
  • Send important service notifications (with parental consent)
  • Ensure app security and prevent misuse

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is securely stored using industry-standard encryption:

  • All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
  • We use Supabase, a secure cloud database service
  • Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
  • We regularly audit our security practices

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Apple Sign-In: Optional authentication method. When you sign in with Apple, we receive your email address (which you may choose to hide) and your name (optional). This information is used solely for creating and managing your Chef Pip account.
  • Google Sign-In: Optional authentication method. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and profile name. This information is used solely for creating and managing your Chef Pip account.
  • Supabase: Authentication and database (EU-compliant)
  • RevenueCat: Subscription management
  • Google AdMob: Advertisements (can be disabled with premium subscription)
  • Kidoz: Child-safe ad mediation partner, used alongside AdMob to serve age-appropriate advertisements
  • Google Gemini AI: AI-powered recipe generation (no personal data is sent to Gemini)

Important: Data received from Apple Sign-In and Google Sign-In is used exclusively for authentication purposes. We do not use this data for marketing, advertising, or any other purpose beyond providing you access to your Chef Pip account.

6. Advertisements

Free users may see advertisements. We use age-based ad controls to ensure safety:

  • During onboarding, users select their age range (6-8, 9-12, or 13+)
  • Users under 13: Only COPPA-compliant, child-directed ads are shown (rated G content only, no personalized advertising, no behavioral tracking)
  • Users 13 and older: Standard age-appropriate ads are shown (rated T content)
  • Non-personalized ads are requested for all users regardless of age
  • Ads are served through Google AdMob with Kidoz as a child-safe mediation partner
  • Premium subscribers see no advertisements

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of marketing communications

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:

  • Your data is kept for 30 days (in case you change your mind)
  • After 30 days, all personal data is permanently deleted

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or via email.
